Senior Lauren Cook Receives SC League for Nursing Scholarship
October 17, 2007
USC Aiken senior Lauren Cook was recently awarded the South Carolina League for Nursing’s (SCLN) undergraduate scholarship.
Cook, a nursing major from Hampton, S.C., was selected as one of two recipients from ten finalists in the state.
Cook was nominated by members of the faculty of USC Aiken’s School of Nursing. According to Dr. Julia Ball, dean of the School of Nursing, “ Lauren is an exemplar of what we want the public to envision when they think of a nurse. She is consistently kind and compassionate towards her patients and peers; she possesses a gentle calm and exudes an inner-peace. She has all the makings of a great nurse leader.”
The SCLN is a constituent league of the National League for Nursing. Their purpose is to advance quality nursing education to meet the unique needs of diverse populations in an ever changing health care environment at the constituent level.
Cook is very involved on the USC Aiken campus, serving as: an exercise specialist in the cardiac rehabilitation program and senior’s program at the USCA Wellness Center, secretary of the Student Nurses Association, and as the 2007 delegate at the National Student Nurses Association Convention. Cook is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International nursing honor society. She has also been honored with the United States Department of the Army Spirit of Nursing Award.
