TKE Fraternity Raises Funds Through “Toilet Sit”

5 March 2008

Members of USCA’s Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity chapter raised $800 in funds through their “Toilet Sit” event to benefit Alzheimer’s research.

All 24 TKE members took turns sitting on a toilet displayed on the University’s campus to raise awareness and collect funds for Alzheimer’s research, which is the fraternity’s chosen philanthropy. TKE members said that Alzheimer’s was important to them because so many knew individuals affected by it, including TKE member Nelson Dreyfuss, whose grandfather suffers from the disease.

When asked why the chapter selected a toilet sit, they explained that it was a great way to get people’s attention. TKE members took part in the toilet for 52 hours, beginning 1:00 pm February 27 and ending 5:00 pm February 29, including a 23°F overnight low. TKE holds the event once each semester.
