SC Aiken Student Design and News Staffers Win State Awards

Aiken, SC – The University of South Carolina Aiken is pleased to announce students that publish the University’s student newspaper, Pacer Times, have been recognized with several state awards.

Ronnica Golson, a graduating fine arts major at USC Aiken, has received honors as the number-one illustrator and graphic designer among South Carolina university newspapers. Golson has served as Art Director and page one designer for the student newspaper, Pacer Times, during the 2014-2015 academic year.

 

Robert Washington, a junior biology major, won a first-place for his cartoon portfolio in the collegiate under-5,000 enrollment division of the contest.

 

The staff of Pacer Times also won several awards from the South Carolina Press Association Collegiate Division, receiving an honorable mention for a special section and for General Excellence in the under-5,000 division.

 

Golson was awarded first place in the open division for her illustration and informational graphic portfolio. She also received a second-place award for her tabloid page-one design portfolio in the open division.

 

Student news organizations and individuals recognized at the ceremony included University of South Carolina's Daily Gamecock, The Clemson Tiger, College of Charleston Cistern Yard, Winthrop University's Johnstonian, Wofford College's Old Gold & Black, Bob Jones University's The Collegian, and Francis Marion University's The Patriot.

 

USC Aiken Senior Instructor Peggy Elliott, adviser to the Pacer Times, has served as chair of the collegiate division's board of directors during the academic year.
