Jeremy Smith
" I am an athlete here at USC Aiken. The professors work well with me, and understand that I am going to miss class occasionally. They take time to explain to me the things I missed. USC Aiken is the place for me. "

- Jeremy Smith , Business Administration major

Students in Class
Did You Know?
USC Aiken has some of the best professional schools in South Carolina. All three - business, nursing, and education - have received the highest level of accreditation possible. This means more opportunities for you to learn from the best and brightest the University has to offer.

Dalisha Williams
"USC Aiken has the best faculty around! Professors and advisors really have your best interest in mind and will always work with you."

- Dalisha Williams, Middle School Education major

Aaron Doctor
"USC Aiken has so much to offer. Whether it’s Greek life, student activities, athletics, honor societies, or residential life, our campus is full of opportunities and ways to become involved."

- Aaron Doctor, Exercise and Sports Science major

John Ellis
"USCA has many different students from many different backgrounds, but one thing that ties us all together is the campus atmosphere. When I left high school I was scared that I was not going to meet anyone that would be as good as my friends back home. Within my first couple of days at USCA, I had more friends than I have ever had before."

- John Ellis, Communications major

TJ Langford
"During the course of my freshman and sophomore years, I was a resident in the Pacer Downs. When I first met my roommate my freshman year, we became the best of friends from the get-go. We found out that we were so much alike in many ways. We connected like brothers, and we are still roommates today during our junior year. "

- Anthony (T.J.) Langford, Communications major

TJ Johnston
"Getting involved in Greek Life and participating in intramural sports is a great way to meet new people. I have participated in every intramural sport offered, and it has helped me stay active. "

- TJ Johnston, Business Marketing major

Chris Brown
"Working on campus is a great opportunity for students at USC Aiken. You have the chance to meet so many faculty and staff members and see what happens behind the scenes here at school. Your job will also work around your class schedule because they always put academics first. "

- Chris Brown, Fine Arts major

Kelsey LopezdeVictoria
"I love living in the Honors housing here at USCA. Just living on campus makes participating in university events and activities that much easier. Living in the honors wing is an added bonus because it keeps me in close proximity with like-minded students who are committed to succeeding and in turn inspire me to reach my fullest potential. The atmosphere is great for learning."

- Kelsey LopezdeVictoria, Biology and Psychology double major

Jessica Walters
"Through the wide variety of classes and clubs, USCA offers a little something for everyone. Its small class sizes, charm, and personal professors make it the perfect choice."

- Jessica Walters, Nursing major

Thomas Mcleod
"As a sophomore at USCA, I have really enjoyed the college classroom setting. Since the class sizes aren’t too big, I can always get help from professors anytime I’m in need."

- Thomas Mcleod, Exercise and Sports Science major

Alyssa Gadsden
"Attending USC Aiken has been a great experience for me. From the campus events to classes and to housing, we are a like a family – a home away from home."

- Alyssa Gadsden, Chemistry major

Alesha Jones
"I love attending USC Aiken because I feel as if am in a family oriented environment. What I love most about is its location, the independence you gain from attending, and our Pacer spirit!"

- Alesha Jones, Communications major

Dana Hallat
"I never thought I would meet people from all around the world on such a small campus. You can find the best of both worlds: the advantages of a big campus in a small, friendlier environment."

- Dana Hallat, Biology (pre-dental) major

  • I don't think I'm ready for it to be over...
  • So, it's been a while! I have been super busy with everything! I'll give you a quick update of what has gone on this semester so far. SGA is doing absolutely wonderfully. I love the Senators I get to work with and I couldn't ask for anything more. They are hard workers and they are dedicated to really serving the Student Body! I hope next we'll have new senators that can continue this tradition! :) Elections are coming up soon. It's a little sad for me. I don't think I'm ready for it to be over, but I know that I'm moving on to bigger and better things in my future.

Dance Marathon was a huge success. I was the Family Relations Chair and it was so rewarding! Dance Marathon is a program that is used to raise money for Children's Miracle Network. All of the money we raised went directly to the Children's Center at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. There were over 100 students dancing (and 3 faculty/staff members) for 16 HOURS! Everyone was positive and upbeat throughout the night and I was so happy that everyone had a good time. I don't think I've ever been more tired than that though. I was absolutely exhausted...I slept for 17 hours the next day. :)

Other than that, it's been the same old stuff. Homecoming went really well--as usual! I had an interview for a job yesterday and I'm hoping it went well. It's pretty much the only job I want when I graduate and I really hope that I have impressed them! I can't wait to hear from them again!

I graduate in just under 3 months. I really can't believe that. I'm glad I can look back on my collegiate career and say with pride that I did it all! I'm glad I'm not one of those students that can look back and only say "I went to class and studied." Yeah, that stuff is important, but nothing can replace the education I've gotten outside of the classroom at USCA!

  • Hello 2008!
  • So, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year to everyone! It's been a while since I've posted, but hey--I've been resting! :) Last semester was rough. I was definitley spread a little too thin. Between working two jobs and holding executive positions in 3 other organizations, and taking a full load of classes I was swamped all the time. I did pretty well with it though and I realized that I don't mind being busy so much. It's times like now (on break) that I realize that I could never go a long period of time with nothing to do. It's nice for about 48 hours and then I'm done with doing nothing and having nothing to do. I reckon it's good to have this kind of attitude about life (at least for me anyway) because I'm taking 6 classes this semester so that I can graduate on time.

  • Back again...
  • Sorry it's been so long since I last posted. I've been super busy with everything going on in my life. I haven't been home in over a month. I'm really starting to miss it. It kind of scares me that I'm starting to miss home so much because what I really want to do when I graduate is travel with my sorority for a year to two to get some experience with different kinds of Greek chapters to give myself some concrete experience before I go to grad school. Typically, if you travel like that, they will not put you in the region you went to undergrad in...so there's a potential that I will be on the other side of the country this time next year. I really think I would enjoy it and I think I just miss home so much right now because it's only an hour away and I'm too busy to get there. It seems silly to me that I can't find time to head up there, but oh well. I guess I'm scared about a lot right now. Being a senior is not easy. I'm taking six classes next semester. That's going to be tough, but I know I can do it as long as I keep my priorities straight. My top priority until May is graduating. I love USCA, but I'm ready to see what else is out there. I guess now that I've told ya'll how much of a baby I am, I'll tell you what I've been up to.

  • So much to do...so little time
  • Today is probably one of the busiest days I've had in a while. I leave tomorrow to go to NACA (see previous post for an explanation) and I have so much to do before I go. Because I'll be missing all five of my classes tomorrow to go to this conference, I've got homework to do before I go and tests to study for and all kinds of other stuff. I've got laundry to do, and I need to try to get a good nights sleep because we leave at 8:30 am. When we get there, we'll have a ton of stuff to do right away. Plus, I can't even start doing all my other stuff until around 8 because I work until 6 and then I've got the Aiken Unplugged Beach Bash at 6 to go to. I'm Super Busy today, but this weekend is going to be a lot of fun so I'm not so worried about it! :)

That's all for me for now...have a great weekend guys!

  • Today is a long one...
  • So before I get started talking about everything going on in Laney-Land, I figured I'd answer a question from a previous blog.

Ashley asked me what NACA is because I forgot to explain it before. NACA is the National Association of Campus Activities. I will be attending the NACA South Conference held in Charleston, SC. The Conferences are an opportunity for delegates from campuses in the South Region (that's me!) to come together and meet different acts and other people that work with programming boards. We will be doing stuff from about 9 am until about midnight every night. We will have Educational Sessions in the morning on topics ranging from "How to get a job in Student Affairs" to "How to get people to come to your event" and "How to run a programming board on a small budget." In the afternoon and in the evenings, we will be sitting through showcases. A showcase is an opportunity for acts to come out and do short snipets from their stage acts...it's about 20 minutes each. They break the showcases up into music, comedians/stage acts, and lectures. Everyone going from USCA will sit down after we get back and go through the acts we liked and didn't like. On top of that, there is a Marketplace. In the marketplace, agencies and performers are EVERYWHERE! They give us videos and t-shirts and stickers and all kinds of nonsense. When we get back to USCA, we'll go through the videos and try to find the best acts for our campus while still keeping in mind the acts we saw in showcases. Also, in the Marketplace, there are different Novelty Acts (aquamassagers, oxygen bars, make your own keychains, etc) that you can bring to your campus.

Hope that answered your question, Ashley! :)

Anywho...life for me is pretty great right now. It's busy as always, but I'm enjoying it. I'm getting pumped up about Fall Break. I'm going back to New Orleans this year...

  • The Senior who just finished her Junior Writing Portfolio...
  • Well, as the title of this blog would suggest, I am a slacker. Yep, I said it and for those of you keeping score at home, that's probably the 900th time I've realized that in the last year.

It's not so much that I'm a "slacker" I guess. I just let other things distract me, but tonight...I did it! I finally sat down and finished my Rising Junior Writing Portfolio. Granted, I'm no longer a rising Junior...or a rising anything really. I'm a senior, getting ready to get out of here.

  • Another year is upon us!
  • Well, I'm a Senior now. I'm not going to lie...I'm scared. I have so much to do this year. I'm a bit of a procrastinator so I haven't done my Junior Writing Portfolio yet. If I don't pass, I'm not sure what I'll do. I should have done better, but it just seems like there is always something out there that sounds better than working on a stinkin' portfolio. On top of that, I think that I've got more responsibility than ever before this year. I'm currently holding executive positions in 4 on campus organizations and I'm an active member in several more. I'm beginning to think that I need to cut out some of it--it's just so hard to choose what to cut out because I love it all so much. As if I wasn't busy enough trying to get through my Senior year, I've got to think about getting a "big-girl" job. I might go to Grad School, but I'm also thinking about taking a year off before I do.

  • WOW!
  • So, honestly, the last 2 months of my life have been CRAZY! Sorry it's been so long since I've posted, but get excited...this post is going to be a long one! I'll start from where I left off, I suppose.

Spring Break was so much fun! I had an awesome time and I made some great friends. Last year for Spring Break we went to Florida to work on a Habitat for Humanity house, but we didn't actually work on a house. We did landscaping. This year, though, we started from a foundation and when we left we had a roof, we had put siding up on most of the house, it was insulated, it had windows and doors and walls, and a porch. It was so incredible to see what a group of students that had really never worked together could do. I highly recommend that everyone work on a Habitat house at least once! It's an experience that has changed me and something I will never forget.

  • SPRING HAS SPRUNG...sort of
  • I feel like my life has been moving in fast forward for the past couple of weeks, and I wont lie...I'm so pumped about Spring Break next week! I'll be in Valdosta, GA building a Habitat for Humanity house and I can't wait. School has been a little crazy lately. I've been working hard to get my Student Government campaign squared away, and I hope everything works out with that! I think that's really about all thats going on in Laney-land right now! Hope you all have a great weekend and a safe and happy Spring Break!!! :)

  • See what had happened was...
  • So, things are pretty good for me. I'm so tired, and we're not even at midterms yet, but whatever...who's counting. Work is going really well. Student Government is super busy right now with Elections coming up, and we're all a little frazzled right now, but we'll get into the swing of things soon enough, I reckon. Work in the Chancellor's office is great, as always. Classes are going well and Panhellenic is reallly making some progress with new ideas and changes and I'm so glad! I love working with that organization and I am really lucky to be a part of it! My other organizations are doing really well too. I'm really excited about Spring Break. It's going to be tons of fun! We are going to Valdosta, GA to help build a Habitat for Humanity house. I am so excited! We'll be coming back to South Carolina on the 17th of March and one of my best friends and I will be heading straight to Columbia to see Corey Smith perform! It's going to be amazing! Well I guess that's it...hope you all are having a great spring so far! <3
