I don't think I'm ready for it to be over...

So, it's been a while! I have been super busy with everything! I'll give you a quick update of what has gone on this semester so far. SGA is doing absolutely wonderfully. I love the Senators I get to work with and I couldn't ask for anything more. They are hard workers and they are dedicated to really serving the Student Body! I hope next we'll have new senators that can continue this tradition! :) Elections are coming up soon. It's a little sad for me. I don't think I'm ready for it to be over, but I know that I'm moving on to bigger and better things in my future.

Dance Marathon was a huge success. I was the Family Relations Chair and it was so rewarding! Dance Marathon is a program that is used to raise money for Children's Miracle Network. All of the money we raised went directly to the Children's Center at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. There were over 100 students dancing (and 3 faculty/staff members) for 16 HOURS! Everyone was positive and upbeat throughout the night and I was so happy that everyone had a good time. I don't think I've ever been more tired than that though. I was absolutely exhausted...I slept for 17 hours the next day. :)

Other than that, it's been the same old stuff. Homecoming went really well--as usual! I had an interview for a job yesterday and I'm hoping it went well. It's pretty much the only job I want when I graduate and I really hope that I have impressed them! I can't wait to hear from them again!

I graduate in just under 3 months. I really can't believe that. I'm glad I can look back on my collegiate career and say with pride that I did it all! I'm glad I'm not one of those students that can look back and only say "I went to class and studied." Yeah, that stuff is important, but nothing can replace the education I've gotten outside of the classroom at USCA!

Hello 2008!

So, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year to everyone! It's been a while since I've posted, but hey--I've been resting! :) Last semester was rough. I was definitley spread a little too thin. Between working two jobs and holding executive positions in 3 other organizations, and taking a full load of classes I was swamped all the time. I did pretty well with it though and I realized that I don't mind being busy so much. It's times like now (on break) that I realize that I could never go a long period of time with nothing to do. It's nice for about 48 hours and then I'm done with doing nothing and having nothing to do. I reckon it's good to have this kind of attitude about life (at least for me anyway) because I'm taking 6 classes this semester so that I can graduate on time.

Back again...

Sorry it's been so long since I last posted. I've been super busy with everything going on in my life. I haven't been home in over a month. I'm really starting to miss it. It kind of scares me that I'm starting to miss home so much because what I really want to do when I graduate is travel with my sorority for a year to two to get some experience with different kinds of Greek chapters to give myself some concrete experience before I go to grad school. Typically, if you travel like that, they will not put you in the region you went to undergrad in...so there's a potential that I will be on the other side of the country this time next year. I really think I would enjoy it and I think I just miss home so much right now because it's only an hour away and I'm too busy to get there. It seems silly to me that I can't find time to head up there, but oh well. I guess I'm scared about a lot right now. Being a senior is not easy. I'm taking six classes next semester. That's going to be tough, but I know I can do it as long as I keep my priorities straight. My top priority until May is graduating. I love USCA, but I'm ready to see what else is out there. I guess now that I've told ya'll how much of a baby I am, I'll tell you what I've been up to.

So much to do...so little time

Today is probably one of the busiest days I've had in a while. I leave tomorrow to go to NACA (see previous post for an explanation) and I have so much to do before I go. Because I'll be missing all five of my classes tomorrow to go to this conference, I've got homework to do before I go and tests to study for and all kinds of other stuff. I've got laundry to do, and I need to try to get a good nights sleep because we leave at 8:30 am. When we get there, we'll have a ton of stuff to do right away. Plus, I can't even start doing all my other stuff until around 8 because I work until 6 and then I've got the Aiken Unplugged Beach Bash at 6 to go to. I'm Super Busy today, but this weekend is going to be a lot of fun so I'm not so worried about it! :)

That's all for me for now...have a great weekend guys!

Today is a long one...

So before I get started talking about everything going on in Laney-Land, I figured I'd answer a question from a previous blog.

Ashley asked me what NACA is because I forgot to explain it before. NACA is the National Association of Campus Activities. I will be attending the NACA South Conference held in Charleston, SC. The Conferences are an opportunity for delegates from campuses in the South Region (that's me!) to come together and meet different acts and other people that work with programming boards. We will be doing stuff from about 9 am until about midnight every night. We will have Educational Sessions in the morning on topics ranging from "How to get a job in Student Affairs" to "How to get people to come to your event" and "How to run a programming board on a small budget." In the afternoon and in the evenings, we will be sitting through showcases. A showcase is an opportunity for acts to come out and do short snipets from their stage acts...it's about 20 minutes each. They break the showcases up into music, comedians/stage acts, and lectures. Everyone going from USCA will sit down after we get back and go through the acts we liked and didn't like. On top of that, there is a Marketplace. In the marketplace, agencies and performers are EVERYWHERE! They give us videos and t-shirts and stickers and all kinds of nonsense. When we get back to USCA, we'll go through the videos and try to find the best acts for our campus while still keeping in mind the acts we saw in showcases. Also, in the Marketplace, there are different Novelty Acts (aquamassagers, oxygen bars, make your own keychains, etc) that you can bring to your campus.

Hope that answered your question, Ashley! :)

Anywho...life for me is pretty great right now. It's busy as always, but I'm enjoying it. I'm getting pumped up about Fall Break. I'm going back to New Orleans this year...

The Senior who just finished her Junior Writing Portfolio...

Well, as the title of this blog would suggest, I am a slacker. Yep, I said it and for those of you keeping score at home, that's probably the 900th time I've realized that in the last year.

It's not so much that I'm a "slacker" I guess. I just let other things distract me, but tonight...I did it! I finally sat down and finished my Rising Junior Writing Portfolio. Granted, I'm no longer a rising Junior...or a rising anything really. I'm a senior, getting ready to get out of here.

Another year is upon us!

Well, I'm a Senior now. I'm not going to lie...I'm scared. I have so much to do this year. I'm a bit of a procrastinator so I haven't done my Junior Writing Portfolio yet. If I don't pass, I'm not sure what I'll do. I should have done better, but it just seems like there is always something out there that sounds better than working on a stinkin' portfolio. On top of that, I think that I've got more responsibility than ever before this year. I'm currently holding executive positions in 4 on campus organizations and I'm an active member in several more. I'm beginning to think that I need to cut out some of it--it's just so hard to choose what to cut out because I love it all so much. As if I wasn't busy enough trying to get through my Senior year, I've got to think about getting a "big-girl" job. I might go to Grad School, but I'm also thinking about taking a year off before I do.

WOW!

So, honestly, the last 2 months of my life have been CRAZY! Sorry it's been so long since I've posted, but get excited...this post is going to be a long one! I'll start from where I left off, I suppose.

Spring Break was so much fun! I had an awesome time and I made some great friends. Last year for Spring Break we went to Florida to work on a Habitat for Humanity house, but we didn't actually work on a house. We did landscaping. This year, though, we started from a foundation and when we left we had a roof, we had put siding up on most of the house, it was insulated, it had windows and doors and walls, and a porch. It was so incredible to see what a group of students that had really never worked together could do. I highly recommend that everyone work on a Habitat house at least once! It's an experience that has changed me and something I will never forget.

SPRING HAS SPRUNG...sort of

I feel like my life has been moving in fast forward for the past couple of weeks, and I wont lie...I'm so pumped about Spring Break next week! I'll be in Valdosta, GA building a Habitat for Humanity house and I can't wait. School has been a little crazy lately. I've been working hard to get my Student Government campaign squared away, and I hope everything works out with that! I think that's really about all thats going on in Laney-land right now! Hope you all have a great weekend and a safe and happy Spring Break!!! :)

So, things are pretty good for me. I'm so tired, and we're not even at midterms yet, but whatever...who's counting. Work is going really well. Student Government is super busy right now with Elections coming up, and we're all a little frazzled right now, but we'll get into the swing of things soon enough, I reckon. Work in the Chancellor's office is great, as always. Classes are going well and Panhellenic is reallly making some progress with new ideas and changes and I'm so glad! I love working with that organization and I am really lucky to be a part of it! My other organizations are doing really well too. I'm really excited about Spring Break. It's going to be tons of fun! We are going to Valdosta, GA to help build a Habitat for Humanity house. I am so excited! We'll be coming back to South Carolina on the 17th of March and one of my best friends and I will be heading straight to Columbia to see Corey Smith perform! It's going to be amazing! Well I guess that's it...hope you all are having a great spring so far! <3

IT'S ALMOST MY BIRTHDAY!

So, it’s been approximately forever since I posted. I guess I’ll start by telling to what I’ve been up to since I last posted!

For Thanksgiving, things were kind of quiet. I had family at my house, but other than that we didn’t do much. I came back to school to finish out the semester. My classes turned out really well. I did pretty well and I was really excited about my grades! For Christmas my cousin from Seattle came down with her whole crew. We took pictures and had a great time.

"I love Lamp"

So, please excuse my title...I had an Anchorman moment, and I'd appreciate it if I wasn't judged for that!

Haha! So anyway! I hope this post finds everyone out there alive and well. Sorry it's been so long since I've made a post on here! Things have been going pretty well for me the past few weeks. My classes are going fairly well...but we all know that the hardest part is yet to come. That's right, Finals are quickly approaching. I keep trying to remember what I've done with my whole semester. It honestly seems like just yesterday that I was hanging out with the *Gold* group at Orientation and helping them get their classes lined up. I'm kind of sad because it seems like college is quickly slipping away from me...and there's no way for me to stop it.

On the flip side of that, they say that time flies when you're having fun, and this semester has been an absolute blast!

Life goes on...

So, I turned in my application for 2 jobs on campus today. I'm nervous, because I really want both of them. I'm just going to keep praying about it and hope it all works out. : ) I'm sure it will. Anyway, this week has been fun. Monday we had the PUB retreat and were able to look at lots of different acts we want to bring to campus and get other students opinions on them! I'm really excited about the people we may be bringing to campus next semester. Tuesday was HALLOWEEN and Phi Mu had a Boo-n-Brew. I had so much fun! I got to know some people that I wasn't really close with before and I'm so glad I did! I had an awesome time with everyone. Wednesday was a letter writing campaign for Up Til Dawn! We got lots of letters written and we will hopefully be raising a lot of money! Thursday, I went to see my brother in his 4th grade play. IT WAS SO GOOD! He danced...I was very proud of him! : ) Today is Friday! Thank Goodness! Tonight I am going to see Corey Smith in Columbia with a few of my friends and then tomorrow I plan to do laundry, study, and get ready for next week all day long! : ) Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

LOVE YOU ALL! : )

I went to New Orleans for Fall Break...SO MUCH FUN! Aside from the fact that I had a regular ol' blast in the French Quarter, I came back to Aiken with a changed outlook on the whole Katrina thing.

Just trying to make it through Wednesday...

This weekend.....not spectacular...I'll be honest. Nothing really happened. Last week was pretty awesome though. The AASA/PUB Talent show was a huge success and apparently one of the best in recent history. I certainly can't take full credit, but I feel like I put in my fair share of the work. Last week was also revealing for Big/Lil week for Phi Mu. That was super fun because Hanna was convinced that I was her big sis...and I'm not. It was tons of fun to see her face! I went out to dinner with Mr. Student Body President--Brenn Hartley on Friday and then we went and watched Elf at Paige's house. Tons of fun...I really lovoe those kids! Saturday, a bunch of us went to hang out at Ashlee and Melody's house...we had way too much fun! Yesterday, church was awesome. I really felt like it was something I needed to hear...I reallyl love Cedar Creek. It's the first church where I feel at home, and I've needed that so much lately. After church I went to Ruby Tuesday with Lehe, Beth and Erin. Last night was Sunday Night Madness and I had a good time. I was just really tired and not feeling that great. Today, I'm going to the PUB and the Aiken Unplugged meeting and then I have an Up Til Dawn meeting at 6....that should be fun, I reckon. Then there is an Open Mic Night tonight...but I really need to get started on my accounting project due on Wedesday. It probably wouldn't hurt for me to get started studying for my accounting test that is also on Wednesday...I don't know yet...we'll see. So, guess what!! I leave for New Orleans on Wednesday! I could not be more excited to go! I really feel like that's what I should be doing. I'm going to miss Erin's birthday but I'm not sure she cares...so oh well.

Well that's all for now! Leave me some comments!!!
