Assignment 8: Internet Assignment
DUE DATE: The following internet assignment should be completed and e-mailed back to your professor (using the e-mail below) by the due date. Your grade of Satisfactory, Marginal, or Unsatisfactory will be returned to you along with comments as soon as possible. See the course syllabus for details on the grading.
CONFIRMATION: You should receive a confirmation by return e-mail that your assignment was received within 48 hours of when you mailed them in, unless it is a weekend. If you mailed them in on a weekend, you should receive a return e-mail confirmation by 5 pm Tuesday. If you do not receive a confirmation, e-mail your professor immediately.
E-Mail Assignment:
1. Many interest groups have placed pages on the Web in order to keep
members informed and promote their concept of the public interest. You will
find links to many such groups under
Internet resources for
political science - scroll down the page to "specific policy areas and
associated interest groups." Or you can look for the web sites of such
groups as Common Cause, the National Rifle
Association, the AFL-CIO, the National Education Association, Greenpeace, the Sierra Club, or the AARP (which used to be the American Association of
Retired Persons, but now is just called AARP).
a. Look at the home page of a group and explore what that group is doing.
Explain what their goals are.
b. What kind of interest group is this? (corporate,
trade association, professional, union, public interest, single issue,
government, public sector, etc).
c. Describe one tactic (lobbying, electioneering, coalition building,
grassroots, litigation, hard line) that they seem to be trying to use from what
you see on their web page. Be specific!
d. Include their URL (Web address) with your paragraph.
Note: You must read and answer ALL parts (a-d) of this question in order to receive credit for your answer!
