Current Research Projects and Professional Activities

USCA Parenting Project

The USCA Parenting Project is an on-going longitudinal study of adolescent mothers and the children. The project is part of the larger Notre Dame Parenting Project. The Aiken sample consists of 36 young women who were adolescent mothers and their now teenage children. A major focus is modeling the reciprocal influences of maternal attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors with children’s cognitive and psychosocial development.  We are currently trying to model early predictors of mild mental retardation, learning disabilities, and conduct disorders.

Arc - Advocates for the Rights of Citizens with Disabilities

The Arc is the national organization of and for people with mental retardation and related developmental disabilities and their families. It is devoted to promoting and improving supports and services for people with mental retardation and their families. The association also fosters research and education regarding the prevention of mental retardation in infants and young children.  I am on the Board of Directors.
