The University of South Carolina Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma was officially created on November 20, 2003. Dr. Carl Gooding of Jacksonville State University presided over the festivities and not only made the USCA chapter official, but also inducted 19 students and 6 faculty members into the prestigious honor society.
Beta Gamma Sigma, established in 1919, is the only scholastic honor society recognized by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. AACSB includes in its members collegiate schools of business that meet high standards of eligibility required of accredited member institutions with respect to curricula, teaching staff, teaching loads, library and laboratory facilities. Beta Gamma Sigma amended its constitution in 1921to restrict the installation of new chapters to collegiate schools of business which are accredited members of AACSB International. USCA's School of Business Administration received its AACSB accreditation in April 2003.
