The University educational experience should be eye-opening, exhilarating, challenging, and fun. Yes, I said it, fun. Think about it. What a wonderful experience to spend four (or more) years gathering cool information. Ok - some of it is kind-of boring (but that all depends on what YOU consider boring), but most of it is pretty amazing. I would suggest that we embrace this experience.
I have been both lucky and privileged to have received a formal education. A lot of us (you included) have been given educational opportunities that we often take for granted. Unfortunately, most of the world has NOT been so fortunate. In many parts of the world, the resource of education is limited and in other parts of the world it is non-existent.
Ok - I will quit preaching - but the point of this rambling is to relay my deeply felt conviction that education is an opportunity (not a privilege) that can not be wasted. You are here right now and now is the time to take advantage of this opportunity.
This semester, Fall 2006. I am teaching three different subjects: 1) Strategic Management, 2) Labor Relations, and 3) Organizational Behavior (two sections). This page includes links to the Syllabi for each class. Even though I hand these out in class, they are posted here to help you with our class schedule.
Ok - I expect you to be in class - Not just because. The classroom experience is crucial to the learning process. That is where you get to voice your opinion, engage in meaningful discussion, and even learn something. I have a hard time digging things out of a book. So come to class because it will HELP YOU (which is the sole purpose of this University). In addition to being in class, I expect you to participate.
ABUS 478 (Sec. 2) - Strategic Management This course integrates basic functional business courses such as accounting, finance, management, ethics, and marketing to develop an integrated approach to corporate decision making. Emphasis is placed on operational analysis and effective response to the challenges encountered in today's global and ever changing business environment.
AMGT 378 (Sec. 1) - Labor Relations A study of the development and methods of labor unions and employee associations in an organization. Labor disputes, collective bargaining techniques, contents of contracts and public policies are analyzed form the standpoints of economics and the law. Topics covered in detail include employee representation, company unions, strikes, boycotts, lockouts, and trade agreements.
AMGT 376 (Sec. 1) - Organizational Behavior Organizational Behavior is a required concentration course for management majors. The objective of AMGT 376 is to develop within the business student greater understanding of work behavior within organizations - its genesis, character, dynamic, and affect - as well as an enhanced understanding of how to manage it.

I have also included several links to periodicals and research websites that you may find useful in your classroom preparation or general intellectual pursuits. All you have to do is go to the Research link and you will find a bunch of stuff. Hopefully you will find these helpful.
