Plato did not think that mathematics was important in a formal education (ok - maybe he was a little misguided). HOWEVER, he insisted that athletic training was ESSENTIAL to the development of the human spirit. With that in mind - I have presented a Sports page to help you follow and enjoy the sporting life (and to help the development of your human spirit - I think Plato was a Cubs fan). I start with USCA Athletics and then move on to my favorites. Hope you enjoy these. USCA Sports - This is the official web site for the University of South Carolina Aiken athletics. You can find everything here: teams, players, schedules - everything. SUPPORT USCA ATHLETICS - GO TO A GAME THIS WEEK!! Green Bay Packers - Ok - when I was in 3rd grade, I was only aware of two professional football teams, the Green Bay Packers and the Baltimore Colts. The colts had a quarterback who wore a flattop hairdo and wore high-top football shoes and I wasn't about to pull for a guy that was so uncool. Green Bay, on the other hand, had a tall lanky quarterback named Bart Starr (what a name) and a golden boy running back named Paul Horning. There was no choice - GREEN BAY WAS MY TEAM. I have been a Packer fan ever since. This is there official web site. Atlanta Braves - I love the Atlanta Braves - here's why. My oldest son, Michael, was born in 1980. So a lot of nights, I was up with him (say around 3:00 a.m.) trying to get him back to sleep. Back in the day, TV wasn't on 24 hours a day. A lot of us can remember the station signing off at 12:00 midnight. Anyway - up with Michael, 3:00 in the morning, looking for anything to get him to go to sleep. So what's this got to do with the Braves. Ok - I'll tell you. Ted Turner had just taken over his station (now known as TBS). However, being a fledging new station, he did not have enough programming for 24 hour coverage, but he DID OWN THE ATLANTA BRAVES. Turner would broadcast all of the Braves games at least twice, once live when they were played, and again in the middle of the night, just to have something to put on the air. So long story short - me and Michael (even though he does not remember) watched just about every Braves game played the summer of 1980, Been a fan ever since. Clemson - Gotta have Clemson sports on this page. I received my undergraduate degree from Clemson - YOU ALWAYS PULL FOR YOUR UNDERGRADUATE SCHOOL. GO TIGERS. University of South Carolina - I guess since I graduated from Carolina that I have to put their page up here too. Georgia Tech - This is on my page because my good friend, Dr. Bill Marsh - a Georgia Tech graduate - told me I had to include it. Bill, this is for you. NFL - Who doesn't love pro football. Its got everything - bunch of big fat guys rolling around in the mud trying to knock the other guy out. It does not get much better than that. If you need some NFL new and stats, here's the place to go. MLB - Baseball has got to be the coolest game around. Where else can you focus on eating, drinking, and talking to your buddies without worrying that you are going to miss a play. All you have to do is wait for the crack of the bat and you still have plenty of time to look up and see the play. BRILLIANT. "Hey, if you are going to the concession stand, pick me up a Bud Heavy." MLS - Soccer is getting big in the U.S. Actually, once you understand the game and realize that there are no rules except when the referee says there are rules, it is a really a cool sport. NBA - Major league basketball. What else is there to say. Don't even think about coming in the paint cause this is MY HOUSE! PGA - If you live in the CSRA you know about golf, whether you want to or not. This site will take you to the Mother of all Golf Sites. ESPN - OK - I know you guys watch this all the time, but if you need more, go to their site. It is really pretty cool. |
