Aiken, South Carolina has a rich history that dates back to the city’s founding in 1835.  Aiken flourished throughout the late19^th and 20^th centuries as a winter colony for affluent northerners who brought with them their love of horses and golf.   Aiken has become one of the premier horse training communities within America, and is home to one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious golf courses, the Palmetto Golf Course.
