Professor Kathleen Wates earned a Masters of Accountancy from the University of South Carolina (1991) and a B. S. in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting from the University of South Carolina Aiken (1990). In addition, she holds dual certifications of Certified Public Accountant and Certified Management Accountant. She is currently a Senior Instructor at the University of South Carolina Aiken.
Professor Wates has extensive experience in public accounting. She was also accountant and office manager of a regional farm equipment company. She is currently a consultant for several businesses in the area. She has provided training for local firms through the Continuing Education Department of USC Aiken. She has held leadership positions on several local boards including the Edgefield County Health Professional Scholarship Committee.
Professor Wates teaches Principles of Financial Accounting, Principles of Managerial Accounting, Financial Accounting I, Financial Accounting II, Advanced Accounting, Individual Tax and Corporate Tax. She has also served in developing the international studies abroad program for the School of Business and in delivery of the program by traveling abroad as faculty for USCA students. She was the recipient of USCA's Teaching excellence Award for 1993-94.
She is a member of the American Society of Certified Public Accountants, Institute of Management Accountants, SC Association of Certified Public Accountants, and SC Association of Accounting Educators.
