Jack Benjamin is Chair of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of South Carolina Aiken. Jack also holds the Thomas F. Maurice Chair in Fine Arts at USC Aiken. He has directed over 55 productions while at USCA and has directed over 125 productions since graduating from college.
Prior to coming to Aiken Jack taught in Dallas, Texas and also served as a lighting and scenic designer for several professional theatres throughout the United States. In 2002, Jack received the John F. Kennedy Center Medallion for his work in educational theatre. In November of 2004 he received the Founders Award from the South Carolina Theatre Association which is the highest award given to a South Carolinian in theatre. In March 2006 he received the Suzanne Davis Memorial Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Southeastern Theatre Conference. For twelve years he also served as the state Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival chair for South Carolina.
Jack is a member of the Southeastern Theatre Conference, the South Carolina Theatre Association, the Association for Theatre in Higher Education and the Southwest Theatre and Film Association.
