Sandra Field is a graduate of Columbia University Teachers College where she earned the degree of Doctor of Education. Her research in the area of critical thinking and the secondary school choral music curriculum resulted in a nomination for Outstanding Dissertation in Music Education Award.
Before entering Teachers College, Dr. Field pursued a professional singing career in Chicago. As a Voice Performance major at Northwestern University, she sang with the Chicago Symphony Chorus and performed professionally for various churches, synagogues, choral organizations and opera companies.
Upon moving to the northeast, Dr. Field taught in private and public high schools. Her ensembles successfully performed at Regional and State Festivals. In the fall of 1999, Dr. Field joined the faculty of USCA as an assistant professor in the Visual and Performing Arts Department. Her responsibilities included conducting the University Concert Choir, the A Cappella Choir, and the Masterworks Chorale. Under Dr. Field’s direction, the music program presented such works as Mozart’s Requiem, Brahms Requiem, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors. Dr. Field also spearheaded the department’s effort to develop a Music Education degree, which was implemented August 2004. Upon retiring in 2006, Dr. Field continues to teach voice at USCA. She is also an active board member for the Masterworks Chorale, Aiken Opera Society and Aiken Performing Arts Group.
