At USCA, Dr. Scraper has the opportunity to conduct choral ensembles and teach courses in music education, conducting, and music history. In 2006, he completed the Doctorate of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting at the Conservatory of Music and Dance on the campus of the University of Missouri – Kansas City. While at the Conservatory, Dr. Scraper directed choral chamber ensembles and taught undergraduate choral conducting and literature.
Prior to receiving his doctorate, Dr. Scraper spent eight wonderful years teaching music in the public schools of Kansas. Ensembles under his direction have performed in concert halls and cathedrals in Europe and the United States. He is a frequent guest clinician and adjudicator for state and regional events and has worked extensively with groups of all ages.
Dr. Scraper received his Masters in Music Education from Wichita State University and Bachelors in Music – Music Education from Friends University. He actively participates and holds memberships in organizations such as the National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO), the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), the Music Educators National Conference (MENC), Collegiate Music Society (CMS), and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society. Dr. Scraper has studied conducting and rehearsal techniques with composer/conductor John Leavitt, Dr. Harrison Boughton, Dr. Thomas Wine, Dr. Scott Anderson, and Dr. Charles Robinson.
