Soprano Martha Zakkary made her Opera Carolina debut in October 2003 as Anna in Verdi's Nabucco. Miss Zakkary has performed a variety of operatic roles including performances as Tosca, Fiordiligi, Dido, and Eleonora (Il Convito). Past engagements include work with HGH Productions, Studio Lirico, The Dorian Opera Theater, Harrower Summer Opera, South Carolina Opera Theatre, The Augusta Choral Society and the Aiken Masterworks Chorale.
She holds degrees from Converse College and the University Of South Carolina. Equally at home on the concert or operatic stage Miss Zakkary has been in great demand and was recently featured in Rutter's Magnificat, Beethoven's Missa Solemnis in D, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Faur'e's Requiem, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, Britten's War Requiem, Brahams' Ein Deutches Requiem, and Handel's Messiah. In April 2004, Miss Zakkary was awarded third prize in the Palmetto Opera Vocal Competition. Upcoming performances include the starring role in Fidelio with the Atlantic Coast Opera Festival.
