Mission

The mission of the Office of Veteran and Military Success is to provide services and support to the veterans, military family members, current service members in their educational and career pursuits.

This is accomplished through veteran-to-veteran, campus, and community connections. Our role is to foster those connections through these responsibilities:

  • Be the experts in answering your questions concerning veteran student related programs and veteran student issues.
  • Connect you with services and programs offered through the Aiken Warrior Project, Veterans Administration, and other veteran support services.
  • Oversee the recruitment process for veterans, guardsmen, reservists and their dependents and aid them in using their educational benefit to complete a program of study at USC Aiken.
  • Lead the Veteran and Military Student Success Center Program by including a Strategic Plan, Mission, Goals and Objectives, Implementation Guidelines, and Measures of Effectiveness.
  • Advise USC Aiken on developing or improving programming, policies, and procedures that support veterans, guardsmen, reservists, and military family members in their pursuit of education.
  • Coordinate and support efforts with USC Aiken Admissions Staff, Records Staff, and Center for Student Achievement Staff in serving our military family.
  • Conduct research and make site visits as appropriate to determine the “best practices” in serving veteran students.
  • Provide counseling to service members to ensure a smooth transition by assisting with academic preparedness regarding majors and career choices, health and wellness, and socialization issues; while informing them of the universities goals, rules, regulations, and expectations of campus life.
  • Conduct outreach in the community and on campus, including presentations and workshops about programs and services for veterans and opportunities for mentoring with interested veterans in the community.
  • Supervise student veteran support staff.

“We seek to create a sanctuary for our military family, a shelter against the trials of civilian life.”
