Middle Hitting Drills:  Thumb-Up/Thumb Down

Objectives:
To practice hitting different shots, while learning to listen to coverage players.

  1. Tosser tosses ball to the setter.
  2. Setter sets the hitter.
  3. Hitter approach and jumps.
  4. Coverage player follows the hitter in.
  5. Before hitter is ready to swing coverage player calls either "up" or "down."
  6. If "up" is called the hitter swings left finishing their arm swing with their thumb up, if "down" is called the hitter swings right finishing their arm swing with their thumb down.
  7. Hitter gets a +1 for every correct swing that matches the call for the coverage player.
  8. Coverage player switches with hitter.
  9. Repeat until hitter reaches goal (+3, +5).
