Blocking: Good Pass/Bad Pass Blocking

Objectives:
Teach blockers to make adjustments based on pass.

Stage 1

  1. Coach tosses ball over net to the passer.
  2. Passer either passes on the net or off the net.
  3. If the pass is off the net then the middle blocker takes a small step close to the right.  If the pass is on the net the blocker jumps in the middle.

Stage 2
  1. Coach tosses ball over the net to the passer.
  2. Passer either passes on the net or off the net.
  3. If the pass is off of the net the setter will set outside.  If the pass is on the net the setter will set the middle.
  4. Middle must close if set outside or solo block the middle if the middle is set.

Stage 3 ( No diagram )
Variation:  Setter will force the middle whether set is on the net or off, and has the option of setting either hitter.

The middle must focus on reading the setter, making good decisions based on the pass and never give up on closing the outside block.

Score for set number of points.  2 points for stuff block, 1 point for control block, 1/2 point for a touch.
