Objectives: Teach blockers to penetrate and seal the net.
Remember: Put blockers on boxes that are lower or approximately equal to the height they will normally block.
Blocker starts in a squatting position, hands up. Hitter slaps ball and lifts. Blocker starts to extend up. As the blockers hands reach the top of the net they must reach over the net. Hitter hits the ball. Blockers attempts to surround the ball with their hands. After contact the blockers pull their hands back over the net. Blocker returns to the squatting position. Repeat as necessary.
Notes: Start slow so the blockers feel the penetration of the net then speed up and have the blockers extend and pull back their hands in one motion, simulating a post - block landing.
Variations: Have the hitters attempt to hit around block, or tool block. Put boxes near the sideline to help blockers work on turning outside hand in to the middle of the court.
