Defense: Retreat and Dig

Objectives:
Practice retreating into position to dig, and to stop when the attacker starts the hitting arm forward.

  1. Player creeps backward away from the net.
  2. When coach begins to bring hitting arm forward the player stops and prepares to receive the hit. (The coach controls the distance from the net by holding or accelarating the toss for the hit)
  3. Coach hits ball.
  4. Player digs ball.
  5. Player replaces target.
  6. Target returns to opposite digging line.
  7. Continue for a set number of good digs or for a preset amount of time counting good digs.

Variation:
Add a blocker to give the defender a more realistic look at the hitter.
