Passing: Multiple Run Thrus

Objectives:
Get players used to the different types of movements and passes they may have to execute during a game.

  1. Passing Forward:  Tip or toss the ball in front of the passers.  Have the players start on the end line and come forward.  The coach can toss directly in front, or more toward the middle of the court.  Concentrate on staying low and running through the ball.  Progress from a toss, to a tip to a roll.  Players need to be able to identify trajectory and speed of ball and adjust to speed and height.
  2. Passing off the net:  Have the players start in base positions, at the net or on the ten foot line.  Players have to turn and face the coach and pass balls put in the middle of the court.  Have the players concentrate on squaring body and platform to the target.  Coach should progress from a toss, to a tip to a roll.
  3. Moving laterally from far off the net:  Have the players start on a sideline.  Players must move quickly laterally staying square to the net.  Have the players concentrate on penetrating the ball to the net.  Coach should progress from a toss, to a tip to a hard roll.
  4. Passing laterally close to the net:  Have the players start in a base position along the ten foot line.  Players must move laterally staying low and square to the net.  Have the players concentrate on a platform parallel to the floor.  Coach should progress from a toss, to a tip to a soft roll.
