Passing: Lateral Passing

Objectives:
Practice lateral passing (outside the body).

  1. Coach gives down ball to players ( ball should get to players about shoulder height ).
  2. Player executes a lateral pass, arms extended to the left or right side of the body depending on the line they are in.
  3. Player switches lines.
  4. Repeat for a desired goal of good passes.

Players must execute a lateral pass or they do not get credit for the pass.  Have the players concentrate on moving their feet to keep their body in position to execuate a lateral pass.

Variations:
  1. Vary the down balls, give topspin down balls and floater down balls. 
  2. Switch the lateral lines, so the left laterals are done on the right side of the court.
