Free Ball Transition: Pass, Set, Hit w/ Blockers

Objectives:
To practice free ball offense against a block.

  1. Coach initiates drill with a toss to a passer.
  2. Passer passes ball over the net to the defense.
  3. When setter realizes a free ball is coming they call 'free' and transition to net.
  4. Other players transition to their spots.
  5. Players pass ball to the target.
  6. Setter sets the ball to one of the hitters.
  7. Players cover hitter.
  8. Blockers move to double block hitter.
  9. Hitter attempts to hit ball past block.
  10. Players return quickly to their base positions.
  11. Repeat for a set number of repetitions.
  12. Rows of players wave through.

Variations:
  1. Score by good hits, blocks, or good passes.
  2. Have hitters catch ball, to insure blockers, hitters and coverage players are in their correct spots.
