Ball Control:  Back Row Elimination

Objectives:
Practice hitting different shots and tips to different areas on the court

  1. Coach initiates drill with down or free ball.
  2. Player passes ball to the setter.
  3. Setter sets any of the three back row players.
  4. Players approach and aggressively hit the ball over the net to a player on the other side.
  5. If the hitter errors they are out of the drill.
  6. If the player passing the hit can not control the ball so that the ball can not be played over the net they are out of the drill.
  7. Play until a team loses all three of thier players, when that happens the team with players remaining get a point.
  8. Play to 5 points ( or seven ) use a cap and play best 2 out of 3.

Variations:

  1. Add a middle blocker at the net, if the player gets blocked they are out the drill.
  2. Start with more than 3 players per side and as the players on the court are eliminated fill in with waiting players, or rotate off every time the ball crosses the net.
