6 v 6 Games: Broken Play Game

Objectives:
Practice executing offense and defending broken plays.

  1. Coach tosses a ball into court, the toss counts as the first contact for that side.
  2. Players attempt to get at least down ball, a back row attack or a front row attack with the last two contacts.
  3. Opposing side must defend the play.
  4. Play the ball out until the play is dead.

Examples of scoring systems: 
  1. If the goal is to get an in system set off with the remaining contacts, only score good attacks from the front row ,  2 points, or -1 for a free ball.   
  2. If the goal is to defend broken plays give defending side 2 points for a block, or a kill out off the first time the ball comes over the net.

Variation:
Have teams start in their serve receive and toss ball as setter is transitioning to the target.  Defending team is in base positions.
