need to tool. Should the blockers reach into your hitting zone chipping the ball high off their hands can create a kill.
Double Block, Line: Rotation Defense, Set Is Inside With the double block taking the line away the Outside Hitter has a great deal of space to hit cross. In this situation the Outside should bomb cross court, forcing the defenders to make plays. Again this is virtually a one on one situation with the middle blocker. The only thing the Hitter needs to be aware of is the middle blocker. Should the middle blocker be late, they may inadvertently take cross away. Tipping directly behind the block is not recommended because that is the only responsibility of the Right Back defender. The open tip is to the right of the middle blocker, and close to the net. The Right Back player would have to make an exceptional play just to touch this ball. The first roll shot available is to the middle of the court, just out of the reach of the blockers and the right back defender. The second roll shot is down the line over the defender's head. This shot is especially effective if the defender has a tendency to get dug in. The best tool shot is high and hard, off the blocker's hands. With the antennae so close to the blocker's hands anything off their hands should contact it if the ball is hit towards the out of bounds at a high angle.
Double Block, Line: Rotation Defense, Set Is Inside The tool shot is the best choice for swinging away in this situation. Any decent blocker should be able to at least control block a normal shot directed toward the court. From a blocker's perspective they expect to block this ball, and will reach in order insure a stuff block. When a blocker reaches they are more susceptible to be tooled, so look for and attack this situation with a tool shot. Hit high and out of bounds to the left, or just crank high and hard. The bigger the blocker the more hand you have a chance to hit before the ball goes out of bounds. The perfect shot hits the outside blocker's hands and goes directly into the antennae, with no opportunity for a defender to make a play on the ball. The same rules apply for the tip. In this situation you want to touch the ball for the tip, push it into the block. When you feel the ball contact their hands, flip the ball in the direction of the sideline. This shot is virtually impossible to stop, and as an added bonus it frustrates the blocker. Frustrated blockers, reach and touch the net more. The roll shot is the same as the inside set. The outside hitter wants to roll the ball just over the block to the middle of the court. With the blockers screening the hitter the reaction time of the defender will be reduced.
