Other Tipping Rules:
When the set is in tip out. When the set is inside and the block is fronting you the best place to tip is against the direction you are travelling. When the set is inside the area along the net increases making the kill area larger. When the set is in the defense is prepared for you to tip along your current direction. Dramatically changing the direction increases your chances for a kill.
When there is a hole in the block throw the ball to the middle of the court. If the block fails to close throwing the ball aggressively to the middle of the court is a sure kill. The defense is set up to cover areas around the block, and is not prepared to cover direct shots in areas that the block was supposed to cover. Balls tipped to this area were a kill 42 % of the time, but the percentage is much higher on balls that are aggressively pushed to this area.
On a tight set push the ball into the block and then out of bounds. The block is trained to aggressively attack the ball at the net, all you need to do is get them to contact the ball the ball and send the ball out of bounds. Push the ball into the block. Once you feel their hands on the ball change direction on the ball and push it towards out of bounds. It is not recommended that you try this on a set that is off the net, it is a lot easier to make this shot on tight sets.
