Objectives: Teach outside hitters proper footwork and help transition from passing to attacking.
Note: you can and should use cones or tape to mark the position you want your hitters to get to before beginning their approach.
Beginning ( or a good warm - up )
Outside hitter pantomimes a pass in a designated serve receive position. Outside hitter quickly moves to a position to begin approach. Outside hitter loads and makes an aggressive approach, without ball.
Variations: Vary the passing position, vary the set they are going to hit.
Intermediate
Coach gives a half serve to the outside hitter. Outside hitter passes the ball to the setter. If the pass is not good then the hitter is not allowed to approach. Setter sets outside. Outside hitter hits.
For advanced move to full serve.
To increase difficulty try the following: To increase the need for communication, add another passer. Add a middle hitter. Add a blocker ( you can designate an area they are to block).
