Programs and Services

Fitness Assessments:
        All members are required to complete a submaximal treadmill walk, muscular strength and endurance measurements, a flexibility test and/or a pulmonary function test. Body composition assessment is optional. Blood pressure screening is routinely offered to all participants. In addition to the assessment, members receive an individualized exercise prescription and orientation to the facility equipment.

 Towel and Locker Service:
        All members may purchase towel and locker service for a fee each year. This entitles the individual to a locker and lock, as well as exercise and bath towels for their use in the facility.

 Open Hour Memberships:
        This is our standard membership which provides facility usage during all hours apart from special programs. It includes early morning, afternoon and evening hours. Weekend hours are Saturday mornings and Sunday evenings. General programming and supervision are provided.

Seniors Exercise Program:
        This program is open to individuals over the age of 60 on a space available basis. Cardiovascular conditioning, strength training and flexibility development are emphasized. Physician approval is required and significant supervision of activities is provided. Class times are offered Monday through Saturday mornings. (Open only upon availability)

 Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation Program:
        Operated as a joint venture with Aiken Regional Medical Centersâ Heart Center, the Aiken Cardiac Enhancement Program is a state-certified program focusing on appropriate education and exercise for individuals following recent heart problems. ECG monitoring is provided. Staff includes a clinical psychologist, cardiac nurse, dietitian, vocational rehabilitation counselor, paramedic, co-medical directors, and exercise specialists. The program is 4 hours a week for 12 weeks in duration. Education sessions cover the basics of heart disease and its treatments, as well as the various coronary risk factors and ways to change behavior. Physician referral and appropriate diagnosis are required. The program is covered by most health insurance policies.

Educational Programs:
        Educational programs are continuously being developed and will be advertised as available. These include weight loss, smoking cessation, and stress management classes.

 Aerobic Dance Program:
        Regular and Step Aerobics are offered M-TH from 5:30-6:30 pm in the Aerobics Room. Low and higher impact options are available.

 Academic Classes:
        Various weight training and aerobic courses are offered through the University for academic credit.

The USCA Wellness Center also provides services to the USCA Children's Center,
Aiken County EMS, individuals, and the community upon request.
