Mary Haejung Losey was born in Korea and started piano study at age of six. She emigrated to Canada at age eleven and won numerous awards and scholarships in Ottawa. Her undergraduate study was at Oberlin College where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance. Her Master of Music degree was completed at theUniversity of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and was also in piano performance. She also studied violin with Richard Young at Oberlin and performed with the Oberlin Orchestra.
Her music studies included one summer in Aix-en-Provence, France, with Catherine Collard of L'Ecole Normale de Musique, Paris. She also studied under Jacob Lateiner at the Julliard School of Music in New York.
Mary placed first in the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs Competition and was guest soloist with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in Ohio. She was also a finalist at the Oberlin College Concerto Competition.
Mary is an adjunct member of the music faculty at USC Aiken where she teaches piano and piano classes. She also has a private studio and many of whom have won regional competitions including the South Carolina Music Teachers Association, the South Carolina Piano Festival, Augusta Symphony and Aiken Civic Orchestra Young Artist Competitions. Her students have appeared for SCETV and with Augusta and Aiken Civic Orchestra.
Mary is active as an adjudicator for the music festivals in Aiken, Augusta, Columbia and Charleston, and is a certified piano teacher with the National Music Teachers' Association.
