Francisco J. Puerto joined the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures in the Fall semester of 2019. He received his Ph.D. and M.A. in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and he completed his B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature at the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, in Spain, where he is originally from. His research focuses on twentieth century Spain and its transition to democracy after the death of Francisco Franco. His specific interests include humor and satire, visual culture, and detective fiction. Before joining USC Aiken, he taught at UW-Madison, Madison College, and SUNY Geneseo. In his spare time, he enjoys playing board games and taking his dog for long walks.
