Patrick Gelinas

BIOGRAPHY

A native of Montréal, Canada, Prof. Gélinas began teaching at USC Aiken in 2008, following teaching positions in Colorado and New York.  Currently, he teaches Fitness Assessment and Exercise Leadership (EXSC 239), Nutrition (EXSC 311), Exercise Physiology Lab (EXSC 323L), Fitness and Performance Coaching (EXSC 426), and Topics in Allied Health (EXSC 440W).

He is a CrossFit Level-2 Trainer, and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CSCS). He has also held certifications through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM-PES), USA Weightlifting (Sports Performance Coach), and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM-HFI).

Outside of teaching, he enjoys working out, reading, cooking, the great outdoors, and spending time with his two daughters.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Prof. Gélinas’s research interests are varied; however, he is most keenly interested in:

  • High-intensity fitness programming for health and performance
  • Active transportation and the built environment
  • Ancestral health & biologically-appropriate nutritional strategies for optimal health and performance
