Inclusion Advisory Council (IAC)

During the Fall 2007 semester, Chancellor Tom Hallman brought together a group of community leaders to form USC Aiken’s Inclusion Advisory Council. The purpose of the Inclusion Advisory Council is to provide guidance and support for the improvement of USC Aiken. Towards this end the Council plans to:

  • Establish a continuing relationship between USC Aiken and the surrounding community for the enhancement and improvement of the University.
  • Seek to develop an inclusive and diversified environment addressing diversity issues and acting as a change agent and model for all universities.
  • Provide support and guidance for employing a diverse faculty and developing leaders to influence the university system and consistently model the ideals of integrity and respect.

The Council has four major committees as follows: Faculty/Staff Recruitment and Retention Committee, Student Recruitment and Retention Committee, Scholarships and Fundraising Committee, and Administration Committee.

Center for African American History, Arts and Culture (CAAHAC)

The CAAHAC ( will create a nexus of art, history and culture, and showcase interactive technology-based visitor attractions as well as utilize artists and performers for exhibits, demonstrations and workshops that Aiken’s African American History.

As an educational resource focused largely on Aiken’s unknown local history and culture, the CAAHAC endeavors to enhance Aiken’s African American population’s involvement in the arts and serve as a forum for celebrating the county’s diversity and sense of community, encouraging multiple generations to grow together in a shared past and united future.

The Center is located in the historic Immanuel Institute located at 120 York Street NE Aiken, SC 29801.
