The baccalaureate curricula of the School of Education are divided into two years of general education and two years of professional training. Any student who fulfills the admission requirements of the university may enroll in the pre-professional curriculum. Curricula designated as professional education courses are limited to candidates who have been formally accepted into the USC Aiken Professional Education Program.

Special Instructions for USC Salkehatchie and USC Sumter Students

Candidates enrolled at USC Salkehatchie or USC Sumter must complete their general education requirements prior to enrolling in USC Aiken pre-professional and professional education program courses. Once a USC Salkehatchie or USC Sumter candidate completes their general education class requirements, they must submit a USC Change of Campus Form prior to enrolling in USC Aiken pre-professional and professional education classes.

Professional Development Schools

The School of Education has developed professional development school partnerships (PDS) with a number of schools to provide an immersive practicum experience for our teacher candidates.

A PDS is a school that partners with the School of Education to prepare future teachers. Teachers at the school agree to work with our faculty to provide expertise and experiences to prepare our candidates to become educators. In return our faculty serve as resources to the teachers and administrators at the schools. All of our methods courses in the early childhood and elementary education programs are taught in these professional development schools. Each school has dedicated a space for us to hold our classes. Our candidates in these programs are in these schools two to four days a week, six hours a day, during their junior and senior blocks. All of this is prior to their semester long student teaching experience. Preliminary data indicates that since going to this model, both our candidates and students they work with benefit from these partnerships.

Please read all instructions before beginning application.
