About the Degree

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Middle Level Education provides preparation for teaching one or two content areas in middle school. The Middle Level certificate permits teaching of grades 5-8 in South Carolina. Through coursework and field experiences, the middle level education curriculum provides multiple opportunities for candidates to obtain the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to meet the standards established by the Association for Middle Level Education and the South Carolina Department of Education. Our students can choose from one or two of the following areas of concentration: Science, Social Studies, English, and Math. The program of study includes a liberal arts general education component and opportunity for extensive field-based experiences.


Curriculum

At UofSC Aiken, our teacher education programs are fully accredited by the South Carolina Department of Education, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) as well as the program’s respective professional organizations. Our award winning faculty hold advanced degrees from respected Universities and are experienced classroom teachers and administrators.
