Alertus for Mac

USCA Computer Services and Public Safety began using Alertus as its real-time Emergency Notification in Fall 2011.

The Alertus system enables USCA Public Safety to send real-time Emergency Notifications and information directly to your computer screen.  This will provide timely and building specific emergency information in situations where time is of the essence.  Notifications will be similar to the one shown here.

Alertus will be installed on all campus owned computers and is also available for voluntary self-installation on personally owned systems.  If you'd like to install Alertus on your personal computer or laptop, just follow the simple installation instructions below.

Alertus Installation

NOTE: Alertus may only be installed while connected to the campus network (either while on-campus or when connect to the network via VPN).  You will not be able to install Alertus while off-campus unless you are connected to VPN.

  1. Click on the following link: Alertus Installer
  2. You will be promoted to download the package.  Download to your desktop.
  3. Unpack the install package on your desktop and then double-click the installer.
  4. Accept and defaults during installation.
  5. Once installation is complete, click GO, click Applications, click Alertus.  This will activate Alertus and complete the installation.

Alertus should appear within just a few seconds.  You will know Alertus is installed and active when you see the icon shown here in the Task Tray near your clock. This icon will look as shown while active, when inactive (when you're not connected to the network or are off-campus) the icon will turn red.

You will also see the current status displayed on this pop-up menu.
