Install Alertus

Alertus enables USC Aiken Public Safety to send real-time Emergency Notifications and information directly to your computer screen.  This provides timely, building specific emergency information in situations where time is of the essence.

Notifications will be similar to the one shown here.

Alertus is installed on all campus owned computers and is also available for voluntary self-installation on personally owned systems.

If you'd like to install Alertus on your personal computer or laptop, just follow the simple installation instructions below.

If you experience any issue with installation of Alertus, or have questions regarding the program, please contact the Help Desk.

If you have specific questions about emergency campus notifications or Public Safety, please contact Public Safety directly at: 803-648-4011 (non-campus phones) or 3319 (from campus phones).

NOTE: Alertus may only be installed while connected to the campus network (either while on-campus or when connect to the network via VPN).  You will not be able to install Alertus while off-campus unless you are connected to VPN.

  1. Click on the following link: Alertus Installer
  2. A zip file named alertus-install.zip will download to your computer.
  3. Double-click the alertus-install.zip file on your computer.
  4. Double-click ALERTUS-INSTALL.bat in the expanded file.

  5. If prompted to extract files, click Extract all.

  6. Click Extract to extract all files to the default location.

  7. Double-click ALERTUS-INSTALL.bat again in the extracted file list.

Alertus will install automatically.  Installation will only take a few seconds and when done you'll be shown the screen below.  Press any key to complete installation.

alertus icon task trayYou will know Alertus is installed and active when you see the icon shown here in the Task Tray near your clock. This icon will look as shown while active, when inactive (when you're not connected to the network or are off-campus) the icon will turn red.

Additional Options

Additional options are available by right-clicking the Alertus icon in your system tray.

Status: shows the current status displayed on this pop-up menu.  The status should show as operational and green while you're connected to the campus network.  If not, please contact the Help Desk for assistance.

  1. Click on the following link: Alertus Installer
  2. You will be promoted to download the package.  Download to your desktop.
  3. Unpack the install package on your desktop and then double-click the installer.
  4. Accept and defaults during installation.
  5. Once installation is complete, click GO, click Applications, click Alertus.  This will activate Alertus and complete the installation.

Alertus should appear within just a few seconds.

You will also see the current status displayed on this pop-up menu.

Emergency notifications are also available through Android and iOS mobile devices for Faculty, Staff and Students using the Alertus app.

To install the Alertus app...

Connect to your device's app store and search for Alertus. Find it in Google Play store or iTunes.  In iTunes you'll want the app named: Alertus+  In Google Play Store you'll want the app named Alertus  You SHOULD NOT install the app names Alertus Activator.

Download the app and enter usca when prompted for a code.

Enter your USC Aiken e-mail address when prompted for an e-mail address. It must be an email ending in @usca.edu.

Check your USC Aiken e-mail inbox for a verification e-mail; click the verify link within the message.

Touch the E-mail Verified button on the app to complete setup.

Note: The app can be used to dial Public Safety’s emergency number to report a problem, and for USCA to push emergency notifications to you.
