David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarship (National Security Education Program: NSEP) (semester, summer)

Eligibility: To be eligible for the David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarship applicants must be a U.S. citizen at the time of application; must be enrolled in a U.S. university, college or community college, applying to study abroad in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand; must plan to complete the study abroad program before graduation. Purpose of award is to provide American undergraduates with the resources to acquire skills and experiences in areas of the world critical to national security and currently underrepresented in study abroad (including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East), in exchange for a commitment to seek work in the federal government.

Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan (semester)

Eligibility: The Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan is for undergraduate students majoring in any field of study are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Previous Japanese language study is not a prerequisite.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and be enrolled in a college or university in the United States.

British Universities Transatlantic Exchange (BUTEX) Scholarship (semester)

Eligibility: To be eligible for British Universities Transatlantic Exchange (BUTEX) Scholarships students must be enrolled in an institution in the USA or Canada and offered a place as a study abroad or exchange student in a UK university which is a member of BUTEX.

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals to Germany (academic year)

Eligibility: The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals to Germany is a scholarship funded by the U.S. Government and German Parliament and includes 2 months of intensive German language instruction (no prior German required), 4 months of classroom instruction at a German university or vocational school, and a 5-month internship. Students in engineering, business, technical, vocational, and agricultural fields are encouraged to apply (including recent graduates). Applicants must be between the ages of 18-24 at the start of the program and should have a combination of some internship or work experience and a solid academic background in their field.

Critical Language Scholarship (summer)

Eligibility: The Critical Language Scholarship is for undergraduate students with interest in intensive Arabic, Bangla, Hindi, Punjabi, Turkish, or Urdu language study during the summer. Recipients of these scholarships are expected to continue language study beyond the scholarship period and later apply language skills in professional careers. Previous language study experience requirements vary per location.

Cultural Vistas Fellowship

Eligibility: To be eligible for the Cultural Vistas Fellowship, applicants must be a U.S. citizen enrolled full-time as an undergraduate student at a four-year accredited U.S. college or university; sophomore or junior academic status at the time of application; ages 18-30; no formal prior work or study abroad experience required; prior knowledge of language of host country required for Germany and Argentina (not India). This internship program will allow students to enrich their academic learning through professional internship and immersion experiences focused on civic engagement and youth involvement during the summer in Germany, Argentina, or India.

DAAD German Academic Scholarship (semester, summer)

Eligibility: The DAAD German Academic Scholarship is for undergraduate students. Scholarships are available for study, research, or internships in Germany. Some previous German language study may be preferred, but not required; must be enrolled full-time in a degree-training program in the U.S. or Canada. Summer and semester scholarships are available.

Diversity Abroad Scholarships (semester, summer)

Eligibility: To be eligible for the Diversity Abroad Scholarships, applicants must be full-time undergraduates at a university or community college and be accepted to a study abroad program offered by a Diversity Abroad member organization. Economically disadvantaged students, African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic/Latino, Multiracial/ethnic or Native-American undergraduate students as well as students who study in non-traditional locations (Outside Western Europe & Australia) are strongly encouraged to apply.

Freeman-ASIA Program Scholarship (semester, summer)

Eligibility: The Freeman-Asia Program Scholarship is for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need planning to study in East or Southeast Asia for academic credit.

Fulbright UK Summer Program Scholarship (summer)

Eligibility: The Fulbright UK Summer Program Scholarship is for first or second-year college students going to the UK for a four to six-week summer program.

Preferences: The Fulbright Commission is seeking evidence of leadership qualities and initiative, academic ability, character, adaptability and ambassadorial qualities, as well as an interest in the UK and its culture. Applicants will not be required to know anything specific about the Fulbright Commission itself (such as its history, governance and funding).

Fund for Education Abroad Scholarships (semester, summer)

Eligibility: The Fund for Education Abroad has many scholarships available to students, including a general scholarship and specific scholarships dedicated to various student populations. Applicants must meet general FEA scholarship eligibility requirements & preferences. Opportunities from FEA include dedicated scholarships for student-athletes, students identifying as LGBTQ+ and scholarships dependent on region.

Deadline: The application cycle typically opens in November and closes in January.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship (semester, summer)

Eligibility: To be eligible for a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship students must be traditionally underrepresented in study abroad, including, but not limited to, the following: students from diverse ethnic backgrounds, going to non-traditional destinations, attending community colleges, pursuing fields of study

underrepresented in study abroad, of non-traditional age, or with physical challenges. Must be a Pell Grant recipient, be applying to or accepted by a study abroad program eligible for credit and spend at least 21 days in one country. Cuba or countries on the State Department Travel Warning list are ineligible.

National Italian American Foundation (semester)

Eligibility: There are two sets of eligibility for the National Italian American Foundation. General Category I: Italian American students who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements. General Category II: Any ethnic background majoring or minoring in Italian Language, Italian Studies, Italian-American Studies or a related field. Additional scholarships with more specific requirements are also available.

Taiwan US Ambassadors Summer Scholarship (summer)

Eligibility: To be eligible for the Taiwan US Ambassadors Summer Scholarship, applicants must participate in the TUSA summer program specifically in order to receive this scholarship. The dates of the program are early July to late August. Must be a U.S. citizen and full-time student at a U.S. college or university. No Mandarin language experience needed. Preference is given to students who have NOT previously studied in China or Taiwan and are seeking immersion in language and cultural study.

Fields of Study: All students seeking immersion in Mandarin language and Taiwanese cultural study.

Awards: Scholarship provides housing (dorms), insurance, cultural guides and one-on-one study companions.

The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) Scholarship (semester, Maymester, summer)

Eligibility: To be eligible for the Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) Scholarship, applicants must be: U.S. citizens of African American, Hispanic/Latino or Native American ethnic origin, enrolled full time, in good

standing at an accredited U.S. college or university, accepted to a study abroad program or language program at a university in Turkey and willing to share experiences in Turkey, TRNC or Bosnia Herzegovina with the TCA community and Diversity Abroad.

Institute for International Public Policy Fellowship Program (IIPP) (semester, summer)

Eligibility: Applicants of the Institute for International Public Policy Fellowship Program (IIPP) must be an underrepresented minority: African American, Hispanic/Latino American, American Indian, Asian American, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander; must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident; must possess a strong interest in a career in international service; must be pursuing a master's degree in international affairs or a related field.
