About Psychology at USC Aiken

The Department of Psychology offers a Bachelor of Arts OR Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, as well as a Master of Science degree program in Applied Clinical Psychology.

The undergraduate program educates students in the knowledge, research techniques, basic and applied perspectives of the various subfields of psychology, and the appreciation of psychological values in an individualized learning environment; involving classroom, laboratory, and applied experiences.

Internship and Research Opportunities

In addition to the psychology courses, the department offers opportunities to do research with faculty through our Psychology Research Sequence :

PSYC 298  Introduction to Psychological Research  (1)   

An introduction to the research process through participation in lab meetings of one or more psychology faculty. May be repeated once for credit. May not be used for major credit.  (Pass/Fail only) 

PSYC 398  Intermediate Psychological Research  (1-3)                                          

Students will participate in on-going psychological research. Students will be expected to produce a written or oral report of their research activities. May be repeated for a maximum of 3 credit hours. May not be used for major credit.  (Pass/Fail only)

PSYC 498  Advanced Psychological Research  (1-3)          

Students will take responsibility for developing and conducting a research project within the context of on-going departmental projects. Students will be expected to produce a written or oral report of results. May be repeated for a maximum of 6 credit hours.  A maximum of 3 hours of either PSYC 498 or PSYC 598 may be used for Psychology major credit.

PSYC 598  Senior Research Thesis  (3)                            

Student will conduct an original research project under instructor’s supervision. Student will be expected to complete a thesis proposal and a thesis defense and a written or oral report of results. May be repeated for a maximum of 6 credit hours. A maximum of 3 hours of either PSYC 498 or PSYC 598 may be used for Psychology major credit.
