Biography: Expert in anthropology

As a Medical Anthropologist, Dr. Hayes spent her career in public health. During the 1970s phase of international technology transfer, she worked in the Nile Valley until driven out by the Al Qaida murders of the American and Belgium ambassadors and their staff. Returning to the U.S., she taught at the State University of New York before accepting a position with the federal government, managing occupational health programs from 1980 to 2000. She holds B.S., M.S., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees, with postdoctoral training in skeletal biology. After serving on many national standards and advisory boards, she was appointed to the U.S. Department of Energy Advisory Board for the Savannah River Site (2009-2015). She now lives in Aiken, SC, has served on Aiken city commissions and committees, and belongs to the South Carolina Writers Association-Aiken chapter. She has published non-fiction and fiction books focusing on nuclear waste and its possible world-threatening derivative poisons.
