Description:
Movement and social interaction are essential in the middle school classroom! In this session, we will model kinesthetic strategies for grouping and actively engaging your students as alternatives to whole-class lecture. We will investigate grouping students by chance, interests, opinions, and learning styles, and we will demonstrate several instructional strategies to use with small groups including a pop culture survey and a Role, Audience, Format, Topic (RAFT) writing strategy.

Geocaching as a hands-on, integrated activity

Description:
Many educators have enjoyed the international phenomenon geocaching as a hobby and some have found creative ways to integrate this adventure into education. Geocaching is an activity that will excite middle level students and will provide opportunities for them to learn content. Participants in this session will learn about a number of educational uses of geocaching and will go on a short geocaching adventure on the grounds outside of the building.

1. Communicate the needs of young adolescents to a broader audience, including community groups, professional groups and retirement associations.
4. Disseminate the critical importance of having a teaching workforce that is committed to and specifically trained to teach the young adolescent to school districts, state departments of education, federal government organizations and boards of education.
5. Political outreach – actions NAPOMLE can take to promote political outreach to key stakeholders on behalf of young adolescents and middle level education.

The SC PoMLE invites all PoMLE groups from the SouthEast to work in partnership on a symposium initiative for 2018. This session will promote collaborative efforts among state level POMLEs.
