Christen Engel

Christen Engel

Christen Engel is an award-winning communications and marketing executive with more than 10 years’ experience in health care and higher education. In her role as interim vice president of communications and marketing for Augusta University and Augusta University Health, she works to drive strategic enrollment and health system revenue growth through brand and public positioning, issues and crisis management, earned and owned media. In addition, she oversees mass internal communications and executive communication for an institution with more than 10,000 employees; the university and health system websites; the employee intranet; and institutional photography, videography and graphic design. She also serves as chief spokesperson and oversees a staff of more than 40.

Engel joined Augusta University in 2011 as public relations coordinator and later served in progressively responsible roles as director of media relations, associate vice president of news and communications, and senior associate vice president of news and communications. Prior to that, she worked in Atlanta, Georgia, for the global advertising agency, BBDO, and in Augusta for the arena management company, Global Spectrum.

She is past chair of the University System of Georgia Chancellor’s Public Relations Administrative Committee and the University of South Carolina Young Alumni Association. She is a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and the Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Institutional Advancement. In addition, Engel was named one of 10 Young Professionals to Watch in 2019 by the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce and is a graduate of the 2015 class of Leadership Augusta.

Engel earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina and a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Georgia Southern University.

A native of North Augusta, South Carolina, Engel currently lives in Aiken, South Carolina, with her husband, John, her one-year-old daughter, Carson, and French Bulldog, Bentley.

Kimberly Kanagy is a Financial Advisor with Ameriprise Financial. She has worked with Ameriprise for 13 years – the past six of which she has operated her own practice. She uses her skills as a Certified Retirement Planning Counselor to help individuals in the community plan for and enjoy a confident retirement lifestyle. Kimberly lives in here in Aiken with her husband, Russell, two children – Owen who is 22 months old and Callie who is 5 months old, and fur-baby, Winston.

Daniele Ligons

Daniele Ligons

Growing up a Ridge Spring native and Aiken Electric Cooperative (AEC) member, Daniele Ligons now works as the marketing manager for AEC and serves in various roles throughout the community.  She attended The University of South Carolina Aiken (USCA) and continues to give back by being a part of the USCA Alumni Association Board (Treasurer/Secretary) and the Executive Board of their Black Alumni Council (Vice-Chair of Marketing and Communication).  Her career began as the Marketing Intern at AEC.  Once completed, she worked as a salesperson at the local newspaper, then a Technical Recruiter.  Years later, she was offered a position at AEC as the Marketing Coordinator, then was promoted to her current role. She has played a vital role in the various national and statewide awards received by the marketing department.

Daniele is also a newly inducted Kiwanian and current participant of Leadership Aiken County.  She is an active volunteer for United Way of Aiken County, where she serves on their Communications Committee and the board of the Young Philanthropists Society, where she was named the 2019 Young Philanthropist of the Year. In July, she was recognized as a Young Professional to Follow by the Aiken Standard newspaper and finished coursework at Southern Wesleyan University to obtain her Master's degree in August. Additionally, she is the former chair of AEC's chapter of WIRE and a member of Adobe's Creative Advisors Community.

Daniele enjoys spending time with her daughter, Desirae, traveling and surrounding herself with beautiful things in her free time.
