Leadership USC Aiken

Program Requirements

The Leadership USC Aiken certificate enhances students' ability to transition into career and community roles after college.

Required Classes

Participants will successfully complete the following three courses:

  • ASUP 110 – Emerging Leaders (2 credit hours)
  • ASUP 210 – Citizen Leadership (2 credit hours)
  • ASUP 410 – Senior Year Experience (1 credit hour)

Mentorship

Participants will be assigned a mentor at some point during the program.   

Immersive Leadership Programs

Participants will complete at least one of the following immersive leadership programs:

  • Compass Leadership Program
  • Disney Leadership Institute
  • Alternative Fall Break
  • Alternative Spring Break
  • Study Abroad Program (either sponsored through an academic department on campus or through the International Programs Office)
  • ASUP 310 – Leadership Exchange (2 credit hours)
  • Internship (Credit or Non-Credit)

Workshops

Participants will complete at least eight of the following professional development workshops: 

  • Problem-solving in the Workplace
  • Networking Reception
  • Business Lunch Etiquette
  • Professional Dress/Work Behavior
  • Mock Interview
  • Managing Finances
  • Presentation Skills
  • First Year on the Job
  • Managing an Office
  • Conflict Resolution in Work Settings
  • Accepting Criticism/Feedback
  • Creating a Brand and Managing Your Image
  • Effective Written Communication in a Business Setting
  • Using Technology to Increase Productivity

Leadership Activities

Participants will complete five of the following options (Additional options can be submitted to the Advisory Committee for approval.):

  • USC Aiken Annual Leadership Retreat
  • Orientation Leader (Pacesetter)
  • Serve as an officer for a student organization
  • Participate in an on-campus volunteer program/event sponsored by the Student Life Office
  • Serve on a University Wide Planning Committee (e.g. Campus Life, Student Media, or an traditional event planning committee)
  • Serve as a Resident Assistant
  • Serve on the Student Government Association
  • Serve as a M.A.P. mentor
  • Be employed on or off campus 
  • Serve on an Academic Advisory Board (e.g. School of Business, Student Nursing Advisory Committee, etc.)
  • Serve as a Chancellor’s Ambassador
  • Serve as a Pacer Spirit member
  • Serve as an editor for one of our Student Media publications
  • Participate in a varsity sport
  • Be part of a University Theater or University Choir performance
  • Other leader/career preparation experience approved by the Advisory Committee
