Our Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science provides you with a challenging program of courses and practical experience that will help you find your profession in the health, wellness, exercise, or rehabilitation field. You’ll be prepared for certification exams, graduate school, and rewarding careers with a degree in exercise science from USCA.

The sports science degree curriculum includes courses in athletic training, specific sports, and core courses to give you the skills and knowledge to become a professional in your chosen area. As an exercise science major, you will also take the general education coursework required for your bachelor of exercise science degree. Classes include:

  • Fitness Assessment and Exercise Leadership
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology
  • Health and Behavior Change
  • Electrocardiography
  • Exercise Prescription

Program Highlights

USCA’s Exercise & Sports Science program gives you the knowledge, understanding, and skills to realize your potential in exercise and sports science. No matter which of our three concentrations you choose, as an exercise science major, you can expect to:

  • Pursue challenging courses tailored to your concentration. Depending on the focus you choose for your degree in exercise science, you will take classes and internships to make you an outstanding candidate for the career you want.
  • Take on ample hands-on learning opportunities. As an exercise science major, you will participate in 140 to 280 hours of field experiences and internships on campus or in the community. Health and fitness management concentration students are required to participate in six-credit internships, while those in allied health have a three-credit field experience. Basic sciences concentration students participate in research.
  • Learn in top-notch exercise and sports science facilities. An exercise science bachelor’s degree at USCA gives you access to our excellent facilities, including the Exercise Physiology Laboratory, the USCA Wellness Center, and off-campus athletics facilities. All feature the latest technologies.
  • Study alongside experienced—and accessible—faculty. Our bachelor of exercise science faculty members have significant teaching experience and a range of expertise to pass along to you as an exercise science major. Many of our faculty have PhDs, and all provide guidance on course sequencing and career development. Enjoy a well-respected degree that is also affordable. Four exercise and sports science department scholarships and 10 college scholarships are available for sports science degree students.

USCA graduates can pursue many exercise or allied health careers, such as sonography, cardiac rehabilitation, or athletic & personal training.

Educational Opportunities

As an exercise science major, you can also consider graduate school after your exercise science bachelor’s degree. USCA graduates are well prepared for programs in physical therapy, exercise physiology, and medicine.
