Student Health Center

The USCA Student Health Center (SHC) provides assessment, treatment, or referral for common health issues experienced by  USCA students. We are here to serve you! Please visit us if you feel unwell. We also offer pregnancy tests, flu vaccination, PPD placement and reads, and free condoms.

Services

Students are encouraged to visit the Student Health Center if they feel uncomfortable treating an illness or injury independently. A member of the USCA nursing staff will talk with you and then develop and discuss a treatment plan for your illness and/or injury.

USCA's Nurse Practitioners provide primary care for common health problems. A nurse practitioner is a specially educated registered nurse with an advanced practice certificate or degree.

The Student Health Center staff also provides campus health promotion, health education, and disease prevention information. They coordinate activities to ensure the campus is up-to-date on all health issues confronting the campus and surrounding community.

Services received in the center are free of charge and prepaid as part of tuition. The center does provide a few specialty services for which nominal charges apply; these include, but may not be limited to, tuberculosis skin testing, immunizations, and selective health physicals.

Treatment of Serious Illnesses or Injuries

Sometimes, a student’s illness or injury might be more serious than the SHC staff can handle. During these times, the student will need to be referred to a community physician or hospital. For this reason, students are encouraged to carry individual health insurance to assist with the referral process and financial burden.
