Esports Team at USCA

Our focus is about bringing together students from all backgrounds who love gaming in all its forms. From the hardcore games to the casual ones, we as a campus of gamers unite to form a strong community and lasting friendships through what we love to do best. We also want to explore the educational and entertainment aspects of gaming. This can be from weekly gaming sessions and tournaments to gaming for charity and having speakers in the industry talk about their experiences.

The university opened its Esports facility in October 2020. The center comprises 1,000 square feet of space packed with 24 new computers and equipment, available for use by the university’s esports League of Legends team (which took home the 2019 Peach Belt Conference Championship) or students who want to blow off some steam at the end of a long day of classes.

“This space itself is just kind of the opportunity for the students who usually spend a lot of time playing together virtually to be in the same space, to enjoy their hobby together and to have a place they can call home on campus,” said Dr. David Morris, esports coordinator at UofSC Aiken. “It’s also a chance for new people on campus to come together and experience esports and experience video games who in the past maybe haven’t had the opportunity to do so.”

The $285,000 gaming center is open 24 hours to students and the university’s two competitive esports teams.
