DBT for Parents Group
The Psychology Clinic will be offering a free parent’s support group called DBT4P. We employ Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)-based skills, such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, and emotion regulation to help clients manage stress of being a parent, to build a secure and supportive relationship with their child(ren), to promote and use communication skills within their family, and to discover their parenting values and goals. We’re going to do some research on the effectiveness and feasibility of the group as well (participants will fill out surveys at the beginning and end of the group).
DBT4P consists of 8 sessions, about once per week, and each session is 1.5 hours long. We’re tentatively planning on having groups Friday and/or Saturday mornings beginning in June, but will determine exact times based on participants’ availability. The group is free to participate in, and parents who sign up for the research study portion can earn up to $50. If you are interested in registering or learning more about DBT4P, contact the Psychology Clinic at 803-641-3775 or by email at [email protected]. You can also direct questions to Bridget Cho, the group facilitator, at [email protected].
