Keith Gorman takes the helm as USCA’s head baseball coach

USCA Athletics introduced Keith Gorman as its new Head Baseball Coach during a press conference on June 19. Gorman shared his enthusiasm for leading the team as the new school year nears.
USCA’s Athletics Division officially introduced Keith Gorman as its new Head Baseball Coach at a press conference on Thursday, June 19.
Gorman expressed his excitement about assuming his duties as the new school year approaches.
A native of St. Joseph, Missouri, Gorman played at Kansas City and North Central College before earning his bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri and master’s degree from LaSalle University.
“Keith Gorman’s selection as the new leader of USCA baseball is a transformational hire at a transformational time in the landscape of NCAA athletics,” said Todd Wilkinson, director of Athletics at USCA. “Changing times require flexible and fluid leaders that have what it takes to navigate success as a Division II coach… Recruiting is the name of the game and Coach Gorman has what it takes to do that.”
With over 21 years of experience, Gorman sports a record of 468-207. At Barton College, he produced a 152-116 record. Before coaching the Bulldogs, Gorman spent eight years at Cumberland County College in New Jersey, building a powerhouse program that went 316-91.
“I learned a long time ago that it’s not what you do, but who you do it with. I am very proud to work under the leadership that is here and in place, and I will do my best to add to that,” Gorman said.
"At the press conference, Gorman expressed his gratitude to members of the athletics department, faculty, and his family, many of whom wore red in a show of support. “Both of my parents were lifelong educators who taught high school,” he shared. “My father spent 35 years coaching basketball, and my mother has deep roots in Oklahoma…"
Gorman mentioned that he felt very fortunate to grow up in the household that he did and that entitlement was not a part of his life. “I feel so thankful to my parents for instilling in me that hard work ethic.”
He also took a moment to thank his wife and three children, including his eldest daughter, who will join USCA’s theater program as a sophomore. “I have great pride in my children, and that pride comes from their strong character,” he said. “They all work hard, excel in the classroom, and treat others with kindness.”
Gorman says he’s eager to kick off the season and to build the team’s roster. “I want people to know that our young men will make us proud not just on the field, but in the classroom and around campus. That’s our minimum standard,” he said, outlining his vision for the program. “We’re also committed to building strong relationships within the community. While not all our players are from Aiken, South Carolina, they will actively serve and contribute in meaningful ways just as I will, along with our coaching staff.”
Gorman emphasized that his goal of leading the team back to the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) begins with strong recruitment. “We’re going to build this program around our pitching staff and bring in top talent to develop,” he explained. “We have a solid development plan in place, and that’s something we highlight during recruitment. By focusing on pitching first, we give ourselves the foundation and time needed to compete for a PBC title.”
He also believes that USCA’s strong academic programs play a key role in attracting recruits, and he’s setting high expectations for the players he brings in. “My message to players is simple: do the work every day,” Gorman said.
