Science gets hands-on at USCA’s 41st SEED STEM Festival

Science is more than textbooks — it’s about exploring, discovering, and experiencing the world around us. Bring the entire family for a day of hands-on fun at the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center’s annual SEED STEM Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 19.
For more than four decades, the annual SEED STEM Festival has brought the community together at the intersection of inspiration, innovation, and engagement. Year after year, the event fosters meaningful connections between the public and STEM professionals while building excitement about discovery, technology and future possibilities. The 41st year promises to continue that STEM-centered tradition.
“This year, more than 70 organizations will come together to share interactive exhibits and experiences that encourage visitors to ask questions, try something new and discover the STEM that surrounds us every day,” said John Hutchens, director of special programs at the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center.
“SEED is about making STEM approachable, exciting and relevant for learners of all ages.”
Exhibitors from national laboratories, businesses, schools, government agencies, and community organizations will offer activities spanning fields such as robotics, engineering, aviation, biology, nuclear science, and technology.
The festival is designed to introduce visitors to more than scientific concepts. Young people also get to meet the scientists, engineers, technicians, and educators behind the work and learn about the educational and career paths in STEM throughout the region.
“The continued success of SEED is truly a community effort,” Hutchens said. “Our exhibitors, volunteers, sponsors and community partners make it possible for thousands of people to experience STEM at no cost. Together, we are inspiring curiosity today and helping young people imagine what their own future in STEM might look like.”
The SEED STEM Festival is hosted by the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center in partnership with the Aiken County Public School District and presenting sponsor Generac.
